Victory for Leposa as court nullifies police officers’ promotions

A fight between the Commissioner of Police Holomo Molibeli and the Lesotho Police Staff Association over promotions came to an end today when the High Court handed down a judgment reviewing and setting aside the promotions.

This comes to a victory for Lesposa that had been at loggerheads with the police chief since the promotions were announced in April 2020.

In his decisions, Justice Molefi Makara ordered that the appointment of Dr ‘Mopa Tsiu is reviewed and corrected, and set aside as it is in violation of regulation 7 of Lesotho mounted police service administration regulations of 2003.

The judge also ordered that the promotions announced on April 22 and 23, 2020 concerning Assistant Commissioner of Police Loke, Lebajoa, Senior Superintendent Ntsane, Rampai, Ntlaba, Ralethoko, and others “are hereby reviewed and corrected and set aside as they are in law, in violation of provisions of section 8(1) and (2) of Lesotho mounted police service act of 1998.

Justice Makara also said the promotions were in violation of regulation 7 of Lesotho mounted police service administration regulation number 202 of 2003.
