Minister of gender, youth, sports, and recreation Likeleli Tampane has announced the restoration of sports spectators’ presence at sports grounds to view games live.
As Lesotho had for months suspended spectators’ presence at matches in compliance with Covid-19 rules, the minister said the ban has now been lifted.
She said games had been suspended for a long time and people who make living from sports suffered therefore, without club supporters, games were not the same.
She also said they will look at the evenhanded number based on the size of the area in which matches will be played and only people filling half of that area’s capacity will be permitted to attend the games.
“I would like the media to help us talk to supporters because, if they do not comply with covid-19 rules and risk the spread of Covid-19, we will be placing Basotho’s life at risk and it will be said that I was working against NACOSEC and the cabinet to kill Basotho.
“It is my wish that supporters take care of themselves as we open up sports for viewers,’’ Tampane said.
Kick4life striker, Sanele Phantse told KDNews they have not yet attended training sessions but he is jubilant the minister has finally realized that they need to be on the field.
He however expressed his worry over what his performance will be like as has not been doing anything for a very long time.
Phantse said the fact that club supporters are allowed to attend matches makes him want to have games as soon as tomorrow because supporters’ presence makes them play better.
“I am very excited that we are also allowed to attend games, I have been dying to be in the stadium and watch football again. I also wish that we as supporters should obey covid19 rules,” said football lover Lisebo Manare.
