A Police officer working at Lithoteng Police station is in police custody after being involved in an alleged armed robbery in St. Michaels Roma.

Police spokesperson Mpiti Mopeli told KDnews that the police officer who was supposed to be on duty worked with two other civilians to stage a road block between St. Michaels and Mahlabatheng.

They disguised as traffic cops and targeted a Pakistan business man whom they attempted to rob, but failed.

“The Pakistan business man had with him a bag of money amounting to M9, 300. He however managed to fight and disarm his robbers who used a toy-gun to scare him”, Mopeli explained.

The suspects were arrested and handed over to Roma police station through the help of the community and the Lesotho Defense Force (LDF) members.

Mopeli said the member of LMPS will undergo disciplinary hearing and if found guilty before the court of law will be fired from LMPS.

The third suspect who is still on the run is driving a silver grey Honda fit that was supposed to be used as a get away car.

“We are pleading with the entire nation to assist in bringing the culprit to justice by giving details on his whereabouts to the police,” said the police spokesperson.

The suspects are injured due to the beating they got from the community and will need medical attention.
