Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro has appointed Lerotholi Pheko, the former foreign affairs and international relations ministry’s Principal secretary, as the new government secretary.
Pheko worked together with Majoro as Principal Secretary of Ministry of Development Planning while the latter was the minister in the first coalition government led by Thomas Thabane from 2012 to 2015.
He then worked as Executive Director of Lesotho Planned Parenthood Association (LPPA) from 2016 to 2019. He has also served as Principal Secretary for ministers of labour and foreign affairs.
Following regime change from Thabane to Majoro’s administration, the latter is seen to be tightening his grip on power and government control by appointing his top technocrats.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister’s office announced the appointment of Pheko as the new government secretary, together with the appointment of principal secretaries in various government ministries.
