A clique of All Basotho Convention (ABC) members of parliament who defected to newly founded Basotho Action Party (BAP) has announced intentions to bring a motion for a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro’s government.
BAP, led by former ABC deputy leader Professor Nqosa Mahao, has claimed it enjoys the support of 20 members of parliament who will cross floor in the national assembly of Lesotho from ABC to the opposition at its launch held at the Transformation Resource Centre premises. Three of the twenty legislators are said to be from other parties that were not disclosed.
Furthermore, at the launch, only eleven members of parliament had their names announced by Mahao who is a former Minister of Justice.
Mahao, following his admittance of being a leader of a new party on the cards was sacked by Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro.
This morning, at the launch, Mahao said his defectors will soon bring to the national assembly of Lesotho a motion for a vote of no confidence in the prime minister in an attempt to depose Prime Minister Majoro a fortnight before he completes a year since his inauguration as Prime Minister of Lesotho.
Furthermore, Mahao said with his command of 20 member of parliament, the BAP takeover the position of Official leader of Opposition that is currently held by Alliance of Democrats leader, former deputy Prime Minister Monyane Moleleki.
“I already sympathise with my neighbor (referring to Moleleki) as he is about to lose the opposition leadership soon,” Mahao said.
The member of parliament floor crossing is expected to be sometime next week after a letter announcing their decision to cross floor to opposition benches as legislators under a BAP reaches the office of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Lesotho.
The new party, Mahao said has already kick started its registration process which he expects to be completed at Law Office and Independent Electoral Commission by next week Friday.
Furthermore, Mahao said the party has already formed 15 committees aimed at doing all the necessary administration to help in growing the party.
The colours, principles, slogan, and laws guiding the party, Mahao said are however, yet to be verified but are under formulation.
Mabote constituency legislator Fako Moshoeshoe, told KDNews that of the 20 MPs in Basotho Action Party, 17 are from ABC already.
Moshoeshoe said the three other Member of parliament’s origins will only be disclosed and known on the day they cross floor in the national assembly of Lesotho.
Moshoeshoe however, said numbers will be clear during the crossing in parliament; showing how many numbers the ABC is left with and how many the BAP has gained.
