M8,9 million to electrify five Mapoteng villages

Five Mapoteng villages are soon to enjoy access to the national electricity grid after the Ministry of Energy and Meteorology awarded an M8.9 million contract for connection of the villages.

Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro led a sod turning and presenting of the contractor to the villagers at Ha-Arone, in the town of Mapoteng, in the district of Berea.

Dr Majoro congradulated the people of Mapoteng for finally being granted access to electricity as he introduced the contractor KR Holding Company.

Minister of Energy and Meteorology, Mohapi Mohapinyane, said government will be spending M27 000.75 to connect electricity to each household, while each house hold is expected to contribute M2000.

331 families from Ha-Arone, Ha Ntsoso, Ha Moshokha, Ha Filoane and Ha Qhobosheane will enjoy the electricity connection.

The contractor, KR Holding company, is expected to have completed the job by 27 May 2022.

Mohapinyane pleaded with people in newly connected places to build new houses at places within the connection map to keep good relations with contractors.

Mohapinyane said in most cases, people build shacks at places when they hear about electricity connection, but unfortunately do so at places outside the contractor’s connection map.
