Junior Certificate pass rate decline

The Ministry of Education and Training released Junior Certificate examination results for the year 2020 show a decline in pass rate owing much to the impact of Covid-19 on students’ performance.

The reported number of candidates that sat for the examination is 15, 456, while 801 were marked absent.

Compared to the previous year, there has been a huge decline in the percentages of candidates who attained First Class passes and Second-Class pass while there has been an increase in Third Class passes.

The statistics in the 2020 results show districts’ performance was topped by Mohale’s Hoek with a 65.5 percent pass rate.

Lesotho High School managed to produce top results also the school with the top-ranked number one candidate.

The student, who obtained the highest pass mark in the examination told KDNews that the journey has not been an easy one, adding pursued of studies amid the teachers’ strike of 2019 and also the Covid-19 pandemic that hit Lesotho in 2020 was the hardest experience.
