All Basotho Convention (ABC) Secretary-General Lebohang Hlaele today accused former deputy leader Nqosa Mahao of having had a clandestine personal agenda against the party.
Mahao launched a new party called the Basotho Action Party (BAP) last week Friday in which he claimed to have the support of 20 members of Parliament but only announced the names of 11 legislators at the press briefing held at the Transformation Resource Centre grounds.
At the launch, Mahao said he formed a new party due to the incessant in-fighting within the ABC.
But, Hlaele argues Mahao had always had his own nefarious intentions against the party.
“We discovered his hidden agenda while we were in the conflict for the control of the party national executive committee but we could not allow ourselves to lose the fight over his agendas.
“We were not even aware that Ntate Mahao was the root cause of the infighting because he was forming his own party within our party,” said Hlaele.
“…how could we be the cause of infighting when someone within us always had intentions of forming a new party,” Hlaele said.
He said Mahao’s agenda had always been different from the partys’ as he was never interested in working for ABC’s achieving unity and only to destroy the party.
“When he realized he could not destroy us, he decided to leave ABC and form his party. He decided to leave this party because he could not fulfill his agenda,” Hlaele said.
Mahao is further accused of inciting confusion in the party, Hlaele adds “…he got the deputy leadership seat out of sympathy and nothing else”.
Hlaele encouraged ABC members to stick to the party manifesto forget infighting.
He said come 2022 general elections they must be united in order to reach the election day united to stand a better chance of winning.
“We wish Ntate Mahao and his agents well and hope they have not left with mounting frustrations as they were not forced to leave but left on their own accord,” said Hlaele.
