The Democratic Congress (DC) has lost its Mokhotlong constituency stalwart Tlohang Sekhamane to Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) led by Lesotho’s magnate Sam Matekane.
Sekhamane was ahead of the DC’s special conference on whether the party should elect its national executive committee or not in a war of words with party Spokesperson Serialong Qoo.
Qoo at the time announced in one of the local radio stations that a petition by a member of the Mokhotlong constituency seeking the party to elect a new national executive committee or hold a special conference to determine a way forward was, in fact, a letter endorsed by Sekhamane to stir infighting within the party.
When Mosisili stepped down as party leader, Sekhamane contested against now party leader Mathibeli Mokhothu and lost to him in the party’s leadership elective conference.
However, since he lost a bid for party leadership, Sekhamane was relegated by the DC to the flanks and was seemingly forgotten even when the party joined hands with the All Basotho Convention to form a coalition government as he was never appointed to any key position by the Mathibeli Mokhothu led national executive committee.
When Sekhamen left the DC he was the party’s Mokhotlong constituency chairperson and KDNews understands that he joined the FRP with much following of the DC cadres in tow.
